MAHA SHIV RATRI SPECIAL 8 March 2024 ANCIENT TEMPLES OF LORD SHIVA IN THE WORLD महा शिवरात्रि विशेष 8 मार्च 2024 दुनिया में भगवान शिव के प्राचीन मंदिर
INTRODUCTION:
Maha Shiv Ratri is a Hindu festival that is celebrated in the lunisolar calendar every year at the beginning of summer as per the Hindu calendar.
We celebrate this auspicious festival in the honor of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati's wedding anniversary. Thus the union of Prakriti and Purush for the welfare of the Universe.
On this most auspicious occasion, Lord Shiva performed a great night dance or Tandav- the dance of primordial creation, destruction, and preservation of the Universe.
This festival is also celebrated as a day of spiritual history when Lord Shiva drank the poison of Samundra Manthan to save the Universe from destruction.
Maha Shiv Ratri is celebrated in several states of India as U.P., M.P., Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Bihar.
Hence I decided to give you the true story of Maha Shiv Ratri with pieces of evidence on this auspicious occasion through this blog of mine.

DISCUSSION :
We perform the Abhishek of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this auspicious occasion with Ganga water, curd, milk, ghee, and honey.
We perform Havan ( a fire ritual) and chant ' OM NAMOH SHIVAY' the famous mantra of Lord Shiva the whole night if desired and keep fasting to get blessings of Lord Shiva for salvation.
EPISODE OF MAHA SHIV RATRI:
LORD SHIVA AND SATI:
Goddess Sati is being the incarnation of Sakti or Durga- the mother of the Trinity Gods (Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh) married to Lord Shiva for the welfare of the Universe.
Sati took birth as the daughter of King Daksha Prajapati who was the son of Lord Brahma. Dev Rishi Narad Ji made this arranged marriage as per the choice of Sati while King Daksha Prajapati was not in favor since day Ist. because He did not like the saint status of Shiva and His standard of living in the Himalayas. Dakasha considered Shiva a dirty hermit, homeless, a hard drinker, and many more.
However, one day Daksha Prajapati performed a great Havan at his palace and invited most of all the dignities but deliberately did not invite Lord Shiva and Sati. Lord Shiva suggested She not go to Her father's house without an invitation but She went there.
Unfortunately, Sati was not treated well by anyone and even by Her father. Duksha also abused a lot to Lord Shiva on this holy occasion in front of all high-profile dignities. Sati got shocked and could not tolerate the insult to Herself and Lord Shiva. Finally, She jumped into the burning fire of that Havan Kund and finished Her life. That is why we worship 51 Sakti Peeth of Sati as Her body organs were spread around as Kamaksha, Maiyer Davi, and others.
When Lord Shiva heard about the incident got angry and, sent His son BIR BHADRA ALSO KNOWN AS GYANDEV ( whose first temple is located in Agra for detail please see my blog on Him already published as per the link given below:
BHAGWAN GYANDEV THE INCARNATION OF LORD SHIVA AND THE RULER OF SATYUG-(THE GOLDEN AGE) AND LANKESH RAWAN THE LAST INCARNATION OF SATYUG (DUSSEHRA SPECIAL)
Bir Bhdra/ Gyandev had destroyed the entire setup and cut the head of Daksha Prajapati.
Later Lord Shiva started dancing the whole night carrying the dead body of Sati in His hand which is well known as Tandav Nratya at Maha Shiv Ratri. Soon after this incident, Lord Shiva had gone under the deepest meditation.
DEVIL TARKASUR :
When Tarkasur could come to know that Shiva had gone under deep meditation. He did hard meditation himself and could please Lord Brahma to give him a blessing to rule all over the Universe and He can not be killed by anybody.
Of course, Tarkasur was blessed to rule all over but Brahma Ji also declared his death at the hand of Lord Shiva's son. Tarkasur was pleased to know this as Sati had already dead and Lord Shiva had gone under deep meditation so there was no danger for him.
Now all the deities were worried to solve this problem and last they went to Brahma Ji and find the remedy. They were told to convince Lord Shiva to marry again with Parvati who was already in meditation for a long time.
Kamdev- the deity of Sex tried to disturb Lord Shiva's meditation and was punished in the meantime.
LORD SHIVA AND GODDESS PARVATI:
Later Sati took rebirth as PARVATI the daughter of king HIMANCHAL and queen MAINAVATI for the welfare of the Universe.
Narad Ji told Parvati about her husband and said to marry Lord Shiva. Parvati did the hardest meditation and Tapasya without any food, water, or any other substitute only air for 1000 years to marry Lord Shiva again. Her body became very weak.
Parvati was examined so many times by Brahma Ji, others, and, even by Lord Shiva Himself to break Her meditation but Parvati kept this continue and, at last, Lord Shiva appeared Himself in His original form and promised to marry.
This form of Davi Parvati is called 'BRAHMACHARANI' in Nav Durga. We worship Her on the 2nd day of Nav Ratri as Brahmacharani.
Marriage was arranged and in due time the marriage procession reached the door of King Himachal but Lord Shiva was dressed up in an unexpected ugly costume full of ashes on His body, snakes in garlands, and hundreds of disabled, ugly-looking Baraties ( friends and relatives).
King Himanchal and Gaura got fainted watching these all extremist activities. Parvati requested Lord Shiva in her 'CHANDRA GANTA' form ( which is being worshiped in Nav Durga ) to come in the dress of a prince.
CONCLUSION:
Thus this divine marriage took place and Universe got another golden chance to celebrate this event full of joy and pleasure at Kailash mountain.
This most auspicious Maha Shiv Ratri is also the celebration of the marriage of Shanker- Parvati.
Lord Shiva performed Dance on this night with Joy and Pleasure, which is why this is also known as Maha Shiv Ratri.
I am pasting here some of the holiest temples of Lord Shiva on this occasion of Maha Shiv Ratri.
